History of Dunelm

Initially, Dunelm was operated in a small market stall in Leicester. It was founded in the 1979 by its founders Jeany Adderley and Bill Adderley,  but used to deal only in home-textiles. As the business grew, they decided to launch their official stores in United Kingdom and established Dunelm’s first store in Churchgate Leicester in the year 1984. Later, a superstore of Dunelm was launched in Rotherham in 1991. In 1999, Dunelm expanded its business in whole United Kingdom and established its head office and warehouse in Syston, Leicestershire.

In 2011, Dunelm launched its own manufacturing plant to manufacture blinds, curtains and other accessories with the name Dunelm’s Manufacturing Centre. A new warehouse in Burton was later established by the company after the opening of its 50th store. In 2006, after the key appointments in the company, they launched their first online portal. Dunelm also purchased WorldStores and Kiddicare on 28 November 2016 for £8.5 million.
